Research, Research, Research

Tomorrow, we will begin our research project on social activism.  I have attached a list of some activists and causes on my Unit 2 tab.  Students were asked to list 6 activists and/or causes that they would be interested in researching.  If there are other activists or causes not on the list that students would like to research, please feel free to add them to your child's list.  **Just be sure there is enough information on that person or cause to research.   The students MUST have your permission before researching any of the activists or causes.  I want to respect your personal views on controversial topics.  Please know that when topics are presented, they will be presented as fact only.  This is NOT a persuasive research project.
Students will research their topic for the rest of this week. Students MUST conference with me to ensure that their research is on target.  Next week, they will create a slideshow and present their research to the class.  This project is worth 300 points (100 points for the research worksheet, 100 points for the slideshow, and 100 points for the presentation).   I will put the research worksheets, the list of topics and the scoring guide on my blog so you will have access to it.

Students need to have 50% of their AR goal by December 19.  This is also worth 100 points.  The AR goal and the research project are the only grades I will be taking from this point forward in the quarter.

November reading logs were due today.  December reading logs will be due on January 5.  I will send reminds over the holiday to keep the kids on track.

Thank you for all the support you have given me so far this year.  I love working with these children.  They are such a fun bunch!  If you have any questions, please email me.

Happy reading,
Mrs. Tipton
